CetaScience is betrokken bij verschillende studies naar walvisachtigen (orde van Cetacea) om de kennis van deze zeezoogdieren te vergroten en soorten te behouden. In Nederland wil CetaScience door middel van foto identificatie op de pier van IJmuiden, meer leren over het habitat gebruik van de bruinvis (Phocoena phocoena).
