The main objective of Care4Tina is to organize an annual, two-week medical mission to Xi'an. The mission focuses on children who have been abandoned and need surgery due to their cleft.
A medical team, led by Dr. Johan Vehof, plastic surgeon at Rijnstate Hospital in Arnhem, operates there, free of charge, on children with a cleft and a palate (harelip and cleft palate). For the development of these children, it is very important that this happens at a young age.
On average, 18 Dutch volunteers accompany us to take care of the daily care for these children in the hospital. They wash, feed, comfort, in short, provide the care/nursing that in Chinese hospitals normally must be done by the parents themselves.
Both the volunteers and all other involved pay for their own travel.
What does cost money, however, is the rental of the operating room, depreciation of the Care4Tina anesthesia device, medical instruments, medication, rental of the wards, examinations, purchase of food, diapers, bottles, special nipples, aftercare, and more. Per operation, this amounts to approximately 1000 Euros.
