Cause info

The LSZ is committed to raising awareness about self-harm, breaking the taboo, and addressing prejudices and abuses. In addition, the Foundation offers peers and also allies (family members, partners, friends, and caregivers of people who self-harm) a place for (recognition) and provides practical tools to cope with self-harm in daily life.

Self-harm is a serious problem, almost always involving very intense emotions for which a person sees no other way to cope. The LSZ believes that self-harm should be recognized as a survival strategy.

We offer various forms of help. From very low-threshold, such as the forum on the website, to the peer day we organize once a year. Furthermore, we also provide education and training, for example at schools and to other caregivers. This is very important, as self-harm is a subject with many prejudices. Unfortunately, also within care, where it is often punished, ignored, or where you are even excluded from therapy.

We work with a team of (experienced) volunteers. Many of our volunteers have also dealt with some form of self-harm at some point in their lives. These experiences are now used to help others. For many of us, using our own experience and collaborating with other experts by experience enriches life. Every day we see how much our work is needed.

The National Foundation for Self-Harm is the only foundation in the Netherlands and Belgium that advocates for people who self-harm or have self-harmed and their network.
The LSZ receives no government subsidy or other structural financial support and is therefore dependent on funds and donations. This is because self-harm is not a diagnosis, like Borderline Personality Disorder or Schizophrenia.

Who pays for the donation?

The brand covers the cost, so you pay nothing extra. For each purchase, you decide which cause receives your free donation.

Brands pay us a commission when you shop through ShopDonation. We turn that commission into a donation for your chosen cause.

How much will the donation be?

That depends on the commission of the brand: you see the percentage or fixed amount below every shop logo.

Together we redistribute commercial profits to social projects, one purchase at a time!

Frequently asked questions

Do I pay more when using ShopDonation?

No. You pay exactly the same amount as if you went directly to the store's website.

Why would the brands pay for the donation?

The brands reward us every time we bring a customer to their website, and we share the commission we receive as a donation to your chosen cause. The funds come from their marketing budget, similar to what they'd spend on online ads.

Brands don't pay anything upfront; they only pay a commission after a purchase has been made. Each brand sets its own commission rate.

Can I even save money when using ShopDonation?

Yes! We negotiate exclusive deals, promotions and discounts with our affiliated brands, so you can even save money by shopping through ShopDonation.

Do you sell my data to commercial parties?

No. We never sell your data. Webshops, causes and other users never get your name or email address from us. We only share anonymous data with a few essential services, such as Google Analytics.

Which brands are available on your website?

Many popular brands work with us, including Booking, NetFlorist, Cotton On and many more. See the full list on our shop overview page.

Do I still earn loyalty points when I shop through a ShopDonation link?

Yes. You earn the same loyalty points as when you go to the webshop directly.

How can I verify that it really works?

Both shoppers and causes can see all transactions and track funds raised in real time. Each donation shows exactly when it has been paid out. Try it yourself: make a purchase and you'll receive a confirmation of your donation. Read more about our transparency.

Is your service also available in other countries?

Yes, we are currently the only provider of this service in multiple countries, so causes can receive recurring funds from supporters worldwide. See which countries are live on shopdonation.org.

How much can causes earn?

On average per month:

  • a regular shopper: around R100, comparable to a regular monthly donor but without the recruitment costs
  • a business: R2,000 to R10,000

Our top shoppers have raised more than R40,000 for their cause in a few years.

What if I see a brand that I don't like on your website?

Causes can disable any brand for their shoppers. Ask the cause to disable the brand; it will then no longer appear when that cause is selected.
